Currently, agricultural products are only transported on inland waterways if they are over 1,000 tons in bulk. Smaller quantities are transported by trains or mainly trucks. Shipping partial loads on inland waterways is difficult or too expensive.
Due to the pandemic and the conflict in Ukraine, the cost of renting transport equipment has risen sharply. Although the waterway mode of transport has enough free capacity and is environmentally friendly, small customers cannot use this transport option.
As part of the EU project MultiRELOAD, a test pilot for a multimodal road-inland waterway transport is to be developed and implemented. Therefore, your ideas are sought on the following questions:
