Pewag is the world leader in chains and stands for the highest quality, durability and reliability even under extreme conditions.

In 2021, the isn innovation platform gave rise to many creative ideas on the subject of bicycle safety. The aim was to build on the pewag group's core expertise to create a new business segment in the fast-growing two-wheeler segment.

Methodology and procedure

Mit der Ideeninitiative „Das ideale Sicherheitssystem für dein Fahrrad“ wurde der Startschuss für ein Projekt zur Prävention von Fahrraddiebstählen gesetzt. Nach ersten Denkanstößen und kreativen Ideen folgte ein Innovationsworkshop, bei dem die Teilnehmenden gemeinsam konkrete Ansätze weiterentwickelten und verfeinerten.

Success factors and result

Pewag is entering the bicycle industry with the „Serea Locks“ bicycle lock. Serea is operated using an innovative smartphone app. What is unique in the world is that the lock itself does not require a battery, but can be opened using NFC technology - only minimal energy is transferred from the smartphone.

“The smartphone has become an integral part of almost all areas of life: Banking and shopping apps, all office software and social media are already on our mobile devices. Smart locking systems like Serea are the answer to this development. The tried-and-tested smartphone, which has become our constant companion from morning to night, can now also be used to lock and unlock bicycles safely and easily,” says Rob Bekkers, CEO of pewag Traction and Security Chain Division.

The specially developed chain from Pewag is woven with a special fabric that prevents scratches on the bike and offers additional protection against bolt cutters and similar tools.

The prototype has been built and perfected over the last few months.
Ab Januar 2025 wird das Schloss erhältlich sein.

The Austrian Pewag group is presenting its ground-breaking, smart bike lock “Serea Locks" at the international Fahrradmesse Eurobike in Frankfurt. This innovative lock offers maximum security and convenience.
