Since I am repeatedly asked what can be done to make the probability of success as predictable as possible, in today's newsletter I will try to describe three important characteristics that are necessary in my experience. It must have been 1990 and I wondered at the time whether I could use something like that. In 1990, the analog D network was introduced in Austria. At that time, it was not compatible with the German D-network. Some people will still remember the Austrian 0663 numbers. The terminals weighed around 1 kg, had a retractable antenna and you could make calls for up to an hour on battery power. The picture above shows the first example.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6ede421 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"6ede421\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Which 3 features have helped the cell phone to make a breakthrough?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-379ec2a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"379ec2a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container translation-block\"><font color=\"red\"><strong>1) The benefits of the new solution <\/strong><\/font> were unique for the target group and addressed an important aspect: The possibility of mobile communication was realized for the first time and made available to a small group of pioneers at the beginning. Until then, mobile telephony was only possible with a car phone that was supplied with power via the vehicle. At the same time, this was the prelude to the replacement of wired telephony. However, the first person with a cell phone had a serious problem: the end device was worthless unless he\/she could find a second person who also had a cell phone and could therefore make contact. This leads us to the second important characteristic:<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ab14ea3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ab14ea3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container translation-block\"><span style=\"color: red\"><strong>2) Standardization as a basis for scaling: <\/strong><\/span>It took a while before tap-proof digital mobile networks were available throughout Europe. Only through transnational standards has it been possible to establish a broad user base. With standardization, new market participants can enter the industry. A greater variety of device manufacturers means that prices are falling and the number of users continues to rise. Today, Austria alone has more cell phones, or rather \u201csmartphones\u201d, than the country's population (almost 11 million in 2018). A third important characteristic is needed for this enormous spread to develop rapidly and for a large number of users to join in:\n\nHowever, the first person with a cell phone had a serious problem: the end device was worthless unless he\/she could find a second person who also had a cell phone and could therefore make contact. This leads us to the second important characteristic:<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0e8a13e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0e8a13e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container translation-block\"><span style=\"color: red\"><strong>3) Impressive simplicity through user-centricity: <\/strong><\/span>New solutions are usually only attractive to patient users and pioneers at the beginning. The 1 kg \u201ccell phone\u201d was anything but suitable for the masses and probably not every call was completed due to a lack of network stability or battery. The first cell phones were also delivered with extensive technical descriptions. Today, anyone who supplies a user manual with a solution usually encounters impatient customers. A solution that cannot be used intuitively in just a few minutes has a poor chance of achieving high customer satisfaction, recommendations and thus further distribution.<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c88a4d9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c88a4d9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"translation-block\">I invite you to transfer these <strong>3 characteristics <\/strong>to a successful project of yours or another example and work out the relevant details. I can think of the development of electromobility, where it has at least been possible to establish standardized plug systems.<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">This analytical approach can be useful for further projects and perhaps individual success patterns in your industry can be identified? For an idea that is to become an innovation with the help of <strong>professional innovation management<\/strong>, I recommend continuously evaluating these characteristics along the way and obtaining feedback at an early stage (e.g. via digital tools). Today, digital tools allow us to integrate the user experience into the innovation project at an early stage (an MVP - minimum viable product - is sufficient).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2b2f366 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"2b2f366\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Are these 3 characteristics sufficient to generate a groundbreaking innovation? <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7c76c0d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7c76c0d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"translation-block\">If you take a closer look at the success stories, which are usually told retrospectively without the many pain points along the way, you realize that other aspects were almost always important. Today, we can also incorporate much more information and feedback loops into innovation processes in order to prevent failure and abort them at an early stage. Today's (too) case of an innovation \u201cgoing through the roof\u201d needs a lot more, but above all \u201cone more thing\u201d, in addition to the three characteristics: <strong>a portion of luck ...<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6347410 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6347410\"
